Who We Are

The Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) at Hoover High School was established in San Diego in 2003 by an innovative teacher and visionary, Ellen Towers.  This small learning community, or school-within-a-school, was opened with only 35 eleventh grade students, four willing teachers (one English, one U.S. history, one Web Design, and one Chemistry), and a room equipped with 30 computers.  The following year, the AOIT quadrupled its size to educate 60 tenth grade Hoover students and 60 eleventh grade students.  Today, this innovative program is a model academy boasting 300 students, 11 full time teachers, and 8 classrooms with adjoining computer labs. more»
